Sorry I haven’t posted anything non book review recently. Not since I started this WordPress blog, actually. (Note to self: do not make a habit of starting blog posts with an apology). I’m afraid that may be happening a lot however, since I’m not very good with keeping up with posting.
Anyway, enough of that. As you might be able to surmise from the title of this post, I’ve started school; high school to be exact. As you might know if you read thegirlintheorange.com, she and I went to a private middle school for at least smart people, to put it bluntly. But I just started a public high school, and as you can imagine, ’twas a bit jarring, what with my nerd sensibilities and being accustomed to having a class where everyone wants to learn to varying degrees.
It’s not as bad as I thought it would be, though. After all, in books and TV shows, and the dreaded “media”, high school is characterized as a place where you get slammed into lockers and bullied and cursed at. It may be like that in some places, but not at the high school I’m going to in an undisclosed location. It doesn’t even have lockers, never mind people being slammed into them. In fact, most of the people at the school seem pretty nice and welcoming, which is a relief. Side note (you’ll find I tend to ramble a lot): You know how WordPress gives you articles related to what you’re writing about? Well, the first one is that a high school student was stabbed before class in Houston. Apparently stuff like that does actually happen. It is Texas, though. Sorry, Texans. I just associate Texas with ridiculously lax gun laws and other things. That’s a topic for another post, though.
Anyway, where was I? As I was saying, high school doesn’t seem to be too bad, although I don’t know what the homework’s going to be like. Still, Geometry is so frustrating; we’re doing way too much review. I don’t want to complain too much to my gentle readers, but the high school starts at 7:30 in the morning. That’s right. 7:30. Which means I have to be at the bus stop at 6:50. Which means waking up at around 6 AM-ish. Which I’m sure is fine for most people, but I’m one of those poor souls who need 9-10 hours of sleep to function and be a smart person. Which means going to bed at 8:30. Which is ridiculous. It’s a well-known fact that according to science, teenagers should get about 9.2 hours of sleep. Not happening for the vast majority of people at my school, I can tell you that.
Anyway, I don’t have anything major to say, but I just wanted to let all of my lovely, amazing readers that my non book-reviewing self is still here. I’ll hopefully be doing more posts about school, the education system, and other related things.
Best wishes!
